Trail Running Through

the Heart of the Andes

This journey is designed for travelers who love trail running, adventure, and discovering new places through movement. Whether you are traveling solo, with a partner, or with friends and family, the experience combines unforgettable landscapes, local culture, and flexible daily activities. Each day offers trail running opportunities that can be adapted to different fitness levels and goals, allowing participants to run at their own pace and enjoy the experience in a supportive, non-competitive environment.

Throughout the week, you will explore the incredible diversity of the Ecuadorian Andes, from the vibrant city of Quito at 2,850 m / 9,350 ft, to the lush valleys and waterfalls surrounding Baños de Agua Santa at 1,400 m / 4,600 ft, and the breathtaking volcanic landscapes of Cotopaxi National Park reaching over 4,000 m / 13,100 ft. The routes showcase a variety of terrain, including volcanic trails, high-altitude páramo, dirt roads connecting Andean villages, cloud forest paths, and scenic mountain landscapes that make Ecuador one of the most unique trail running destinations in the world.

The experience is led by the expert local team from Wild Explorers, whose guides will provide support, route guidance, cultural insight, and logistical assistance throughout the journey. Beyond the running, participants will have the opportunity to connect with local communities, enjoy traditional Ecuadorian cuisine, and experience the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Andes while sharing memorable moments with fellow explorers.

Those who've been there,

"

We had so much fun and it was honestly one of the coolest experiences of my running career! You will experience Ecuador from the high mountains in the Andes to the deep jungles of the Amazon. We will run, raft, explore, sight see, eat, and so much more. The food is wonderful, the accommodations are great, and the vibes are out of this world. You will truly get the local experience with local guides and knowledge.

"

Each day brought a new challenge and a new reward as we ran through the mountains, including visits to the breathtaking Cotopaxi and Lake Quilotoa. The highlight was reaching altitudes of up to 5,000 meters and running toward the iconic Chimborazo – an experience that left me in awe of both nature’s beauty and our own resilience. The group I was part of turned this adventure into something truly special. Not only did I get to run alongside Hayden Hawks @hawks_hayden , but I also formed lasting friendships with fellow runners who shared the same passion and spirit.

HAVE QUESTIONS?

Everything you need

to know before you go.

Who can join this Trip?
+

Participants should ideally be comfortable running around 30–40 miles per week on varied terrain and should have experience with trail running including some elevation gain. This ensures you'll fully enjoy the adventure and keep up with the group. You will be guided throughout the entire tour by our expert guides.

What if I'm not used to altitude?
+

Altitude is not something you need to fear, but it is something you should respect. We strongly recommend arriving in Quito at least two days before the retreat begins. The structure of the camp is intentionally progressive — elevation and distances increase gradually, allowing your body to acclimatize step by step in a safe and controlled way.

What if I'm the slowest in the group?
+

You don't need to worry about pace. We operate with three professional guides for the group, which allows us to divide participants according to their level each day. Stronger runners can move ahead at their rhythm, while others maintain a steady and comfortable pace. No one is left behind or pressured to run beyond their limits.

What if I'm traveling solo?
+

Solo travelers are more than welcome — about 95% of participants come alone. This is your chance to meet like-minded adventurers and form friendships that last well beyond the trail. For double occupancy, we will pair you with a same-gender roommate.

Is this just for male runners?
+

Absolutely not. This retreat is open to everyone. Whether you come alone, with a friend, or a partner, you will feel included and supported. Our guides are both men and women, ensuring a balanced and welcoming experience for all.

What if I can't run one day?
+

We have private transportation available. If you need a break, the group will meet you at the next checkpoint so you will not miss out on the views or the experience.

What should I bring?
+

Mandatory: trail running backpack (1L+ water capacity), hydration system, personal nutrition/gels, waterproof jacket, two pairs of trail shoes, cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, long tights, long sleeve technical shirt, insulated down jacket, GPS watch, thermal emergency blanket. Highly recommended: trail running poles, light gloves, buff, electrolyte tablets, headlamp. Conditions in the Andes shift quickly — travel light, pack smart.
